András Lengyel (b. 1952 in Zirc) and Ernő Tolvaly (b. 1947 in Kispest − d. 2008 in Pécs) belonged to the Hungarian neo-avantgarde generation, the Rózsa Cáfé Circle.

It was as early as in 1970-71 that Endre Tót radically broke up with painting in a traditional sense and made the first one in the TÓTalJOYS series, an A5 piece of cardboard with a printed text on it: I’m glad that I could have this text printed.

It was in December 1970 that László Lakner read the artistic director of documenta 5, Harald Szeemann’s call for applications to an international exhibition with the title Befragung der Realität – Bildwelten (Questioning Reality – Picture Worlds).

Tibor Gyenis’ photographs usually record actions that feature himself as main character: the “hobby artist” doing his work against all odds. His art is unaffected by the outside influence of trends and expectations, but at least it is “independent and free” this way.

The work was created during a trip to Istanbul: Lengyel took pictures of the sky on both the European and the Asian sides of the Bosporus. This is the meeting point of two continents that we may think of as two separate cultural units, yet the sky above them remains the same.
