Rónai was born in Budapest in 1953. He studied at the Bratislava Academy of Fine Arts (1970–1974) and the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts (1974–1976), where he also attended the graduate school (1976–1977). He has been living in Bratislava since 1977. He has been teaching at the Fine Arts Faculty of the Brno University of Technology since 1993 and has been the Head of the Multimedia Department since 1998. Between 1990 and 1993, he worked with Július Koller in the framework of the artistic formation “Nová vážnost” (New Seriousness). Since the mid-1970s, he has been exhibiting regularly in Slovakia, Hungary, and internationally.
