KATALIN KALDI has been using the mosaic technique since the beginning of her career. In this technique, which excludes tones, she used to follow the method of the ancient masters, but now she achieves a spatial effect by changing the shape of the mosaic cubes. After her earlier still life-like works, which had a strong philosophical content, her attention has turned to movement. She refers to the vector as a mathematical concept that has not only magnitude but also direction. The title of her latest solo exhibition at the Art Gallery Paks, Velocity of Objects, refers to this. Her work, entitled Hexagonis also special because it uses not traditional glass but the more commonplace glazed ceramic, reminiscent of architectural decorations from the second half of the 20th century. The non-equilateral hexagon displayed is both spatial and planar. The pieces of tile pointing towards the centre draw the eye to the geometric centre of the work and create the illusion of movement.
