Conference SECONDARY ARCHIVE. WOMEN ARTISTS AND THEIR PRACTICES FROM CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE focuses on bringing closer the heritage of women artists through the lens of the Secondary Archive project.
Secondary Archive tells the history of non-Western — primarily Central and Eastern European — art, covering the period after WWII through the present. This expanding archive comprises the artistic statements of female artists that have been marginalised, neglected, forgotten, and remain little known to the general public but also key female figures of non-Western art, such as Magdalena Abakanowicz, Ewa Partum, Alina Szapocznikow Katarzyna Kozyra, or Malgorzata Mirga-Tas from Poland, among others. It was established in 2021 by the Katarzyna Kozyra Foundation and currently unites 12 international partners and over 450 artists, with 140 more planned to be added in 2025.
The Secondary Archive presentation event will take place on the 6th of June at Ludwig Museum Budapest.
