Museums of contemporary art face the dilemma of fulfilling their mission of preserving meaningful instances of contemporary art practices for future generations while keeping the true identity of this heritage, often of a transient nature. How can artists contribute to this quest for the most appropriate solutions?
Lucia Almeida Matos, Associate Professor of Faculdade de Belas Artes, Universidade do Porto and researcher of Instituto de Historia da Arte, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, coordinates the research project „Documentation of Contemporary Art”, which aims to contribute to the preservation and future representation of installations, time-based media and performative works of art, in museum collections.
