"Twenty and a half years ago, a few men in Oulu were haunted by a thought: what would it be like to assemble a maximal number of men into a regular formation and dress them in dark suits, black rubber ties (made of used inner tubes) and white shirts, and make them furiously shout out patriotic texts sacred to Finns. The men didn’t have any further starting point: Neither musical frustrations, a political program, an esthetic trend, nor opinions concerning postmodernism in arctic areas. But already the first choir rehearsal proved that a shouting men’s choir would have expressive power in all these senses.” (Petri Sirviö)
