The exhibition presents concepts and works (videos, installations, and photographic pieces) of young and renowned artists from Eastern Europe, focusing on the question of identity as one of the most urgent topics in a global world. This is an especially charged problem for artists of our region who, very often, share a common cultural space historically, yet are working in the more international field of the contemporary visual arts. These artists face the experience of crossing frontiers on a daily basis not only literally when they travel to take part in international exhibitions but also symbolically with their artistic activity. Their practices may considerably vary in approach or execution; however, what they all share is the utopian understanding of the borderless potentials art has in contemporary culture.
The exhibition is the result of a cooperation with the Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie in Regensburg which, in Germany, is a singular museum of modern art which devotes itself to past and present German and Eastern European art.
A trilingual catalogue (German--Hungarian--English) is published with texts of Pavel Liška (D/CZ), Martina Pachmanova (CZ), Ileana Pintilie Teleaga (RO) and Katalin Néray (H).
