Georg Baselitz

Hans-Georg Kern, who was born in Deutchbaselitz, near Dresden, could not accept the political and ideological underpinnings of art, and in 1957 enrolled at the West Berlin university of art.

Solid wood, from which Baselitz makes his sculptures, was a less frequently used raw-material in the art world during the last two decades of the 20th century.
