Kata Tranker’s work The Horsemen of Mother Nature presents the figure of the mother as a caring, nurturing, protective entity in the form of a mythical creature, a hybrid of man and animal, inspired by the symbols of the matriarchal worldview. Tranker’s artistic work is largely informed by the study of evolutionary processes and the anthropological examination of personal experience, as well as by the interpretation of female identity and roles. The work, which can also be interpreted as a monument to care, is an attempt to deconstruct the expectations, preconceptions and meanings that have been imposed on motherhood in patriarchal society as a result of cultural and civilisational processes, through the reinvention of the genre of the equestrian statue, traditionally a tribute to masculine excellence. By evoking ancient artistic symbols and by mixing human and animal attributes, Tranker offers the possibility of returning to a more elemental, more natural approach to the differentiated experience of motherhood.
