Gábor Gerhes (b. 1962 in Budapest) is known as a graphic designer as well as a visual artist − but he is also active in set design and music. His Last Judgment, or Saturn under the Canapé, part of the Ludwig's collection, is an outstanding example of his special vision, which focuses on a reinterpretation of the private sphere and the events of everyday life. In his typically dense compositions we often encounter everyday objects. The works of Gerhes focus on a justaposition of random associations and objects stripped of their everyday meaning, though not yet reassembled into a new network of associations. The relationships between the elements of this new-created world of images presuppose a high level of acceptance; the new meanings uncovered thereby take their place on a spectrum that runs from sarcastic humor to astounding associations.
