Mira Makai’s creative path did not lead her directly to ceramics, she originally studied graphic arts. The discovery of a new plastic material opened the door of possibilities for her, which she continues to explore to this day. The biomorphic, ornate ceramic objects gradually took on a human character, and after further transformations, the figures merged in animal and plant transmutations. This kind of desire for evolution characterises Mira Makai’s working method: she constantly monitors her immediate environment, the changes in the world, and follows new trends, from whose elements she creates a mythology of her own. This is how the aesthetics extracted from cartoons and a well-known symbol of Chinese mythology can appear within a single pictorial space.
