In 1998 a turn with present day consequences took place in the work of Dezső Szabó: he started to take photos that can be grouped thematically in lesser groups, however still constitute a bigger unit. The events featuring the mass media (natural disasters, air and road accidents, crimes, heroic acts, performed on the limits of human performance, often fighting nature) are modelled with readymade or do-it-yourself materials and objects, and this mock-up (model worlds, world models) are eventually photographed by him. The photos – the individual pictures almost always, whilst the series always – unveil themselves, for the viewer it is obvious that the photos do not depict real scenes.
