As a universal language, which is open to a broad variety of interpretation and imagination, art is the best way to connect people and to bridge the gap between nations. Especially so, since artists often rely on their personal experience or cultural backgrounds for inspiration.
Due to its eventful colonial history and strategic geographical importance, Taiwanese culture has been influenced by various ethnic and national groups including the Chinese, Portugese, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese and American. These foreign or colonial influences fuse with native Taiwanese cultural elements, creating a new and unique brand of cultural and artistic expression.
Co-organized by Taiwan Cultural Center in Paris, Műcsarnok-Kunsthalle, Ludwig Museum-Museum of Contemporary Art and National Taiwan Museum of Fine Art, Taiwan Calling is aims to promote artistic exchange and dialogue with international art communities, providing people of Eastern Europe a good opportunity for better understanding Taiwan’s rich diversity of contemporary art.
