Description

This long-awaited book is based on the exhibition’s material, but it offers much more: the texts published here, most of them for the first time, approach Türk’s art from diverse perspectives. László Százados writes about the difficulties and achievements of digesting and interpreting the œuvre; Miklós Peternák explains Péter Türk’s special imaging techniques; while Gábor Andrási explores the significance of the garden in Balatonszepezd and its existential experience. Having written their university theses about Türk’s work, Szilvia Nárai and Zsuzsanna Tóth provide an in-depth analysis of the artist’s œuvre before and after his religious turn, with detailed interpretations of specific works and sets of works; finally Balázs Faa examines the artist’s last period, his so-called brick works. It is in the present volume that Péter Türk’s own writings are published, most of which ‒ proposals and reports for applications ‒ were not conceived with the purpose of publication, but owing to the artist’s meticulousness, are such important, conscientious and mature texts that reveal the intentions, the actual ideas underlying his works. These are augmented by two interviews with the artist and a conversation between Gábor Andrási and László Beke, who had kept an eye on and supported Péter Türk’s work since the start of the artist’s career. The volume is concluded with a catalogue of the exhibited works and the artist’s œuvre.
