The Other Half the Sky. Selection from the Ludwig Museum's Collection
The collection display shows works of great foreign and Hungarian artists such as Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Yoko Ono, Roy Lichtenstein, DAvid Hockney, Hajas Tibor, Erdély Miklós or Nádler István. The exhibition tells about the socio-political changes in the past fifty years reated to East-West relationships, and it reflects on the history of the collection, as well.
For the first time in Hungary, we show the Hungarian István Csákány's intallation Ghost Keeping (2012) created for and success winning at the dOCUMENTA (13).
The Naked Man
While the naked female body, the female nude is an accepted topic of art, the naked male body, after Classical Antiquity, appeared solely as a mythological hero or a Christian martyr for centuries. The exhibition investigates how the meaning of the male nude has altered in the past hundred years. Presenting works of numerous prominent artists, the exhibition follows the changes in the social role of men from the late 19th century to the present, through crises of identity and phases of sovereignty, the questioning of traditional male role models, the search for alternatives, the face up to weakness and vulnerability, the gaze of desire and the erotic pose.

The Budapest exhibition is extended with works of Central European artists.
Pieter Hugo: This Must Be The Place - Selected Works 2003-2012
Pieter Hugo, South-African contemporary photographer, based in Capetown, focuses on Africa’s social and economic conflicts, and the actual problems and challenges of the transforming continent. His photo series, portraits, family and genre pictures interpret certain local topics, and reflect on people’s relationship with each other and their environment, and the social division typical of the country and the whole continent.
In contrast with the usual depictions, through Pieter Hugo’s progressive viewpoint, the audience can become familiar with a different face of Africa.
This exhibition is organized by Ludwig Museum in collaboration with Fotomuseum Den Haag.
