Celebrating its 35th anniversary, the Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art presents for the first time a selection of works from its collection exclusively by women.
The first two rooms of the exhibition highlight the contrast between war and peace, with artworks by female artists depicting men in war settings, counterbalanced by pieces showcasing the themes of home, family, and childhood. The following rooms feature a selection of works by various artists and movements, drawn from the museum's diverse collection. Included are pieces by female artists of the 1970s and 1980s, who often created valuable legacies while working in the shadow of or in competition with male contemporaries. The post-regime change generation's works emphasize the social and political changes of their time and the conscious incorporation of feminine tools, materials, and themes. Finally, the exhibition presents works by female artists of the 2020s, whose innovative techniques and bold experiments with color and form bring a fresh perspective to contemporary art.
