The Esterházy Art Prize has been awarded every two years since 2009 by the Esterházy Privatstiftung in Austria, and the exhibition of the nominated artists provides a comprehensive and authentic overview of trends in the young Hungarian art scene.
This year, the international jury selected 18 works from 262 entries. The title of this year's exhibition - Breaking the Frame - Making Future - suggests that a striking number of the exhibited positions break with traditional, "autonomous" image formats and replace them with series, art groups or spatial installations. The motivations and themes of the artists are very different; the exhibition presents very strong positions, but vulnerability and nostalgia are also themes.
