Kormorany is a legendary Polish underground band, playing mostly alternative, avant-garde, post-neo-prog music, founded in 1984 in Wrocław. Their first public concert was given in 1984 on Young Talents Festival (Festiwal Młodych Talentów, Park Południowy, Wrocław). In the 80’s it was a band of ever changing line-up, performing at unusual venues like tunnels, construction sites, abandoned WWII German bunkers, basins, even churches. It happened often that members of Kormorany as well as members of the public were arrested by Communist Poland's militia.
Their early years can be regarded as the musically most interesting period: heavy rock influenced avant prog, often melodic, with Polish urban folklore elements. Later works are more soundtracks oriented.
After the fall of the Communist regime, in 1991, Kormorany participated in Audio Visueel Experimenteel Festiwal, Arnhem (Holland). At the same time, they started collaborating with Kliniką Lalek theater (Puppets Clinic), composing and performing music for plays, since then, their activities are closely connected with theatrical arts.
