Arctic Hysteria Onscreen includes a three-part screening of some key works of Finnish experimental video and film art dating from the mid-90s until the present day.
Programme 1 is dedicated to the Finnish expression of Hän – instead of He or She – as it focuses on power relations between genders and investigations of human identity.
Programme 2 experiments with metaphors from the animal world and the nature and reflect on the difficulty of seeing beyond marked paths and mental highways, of transcending physical boundaries and zones in an attempt to create new spaces and alternatives.
Programme 3 concentrates on fears and public spaces in examining the notions of multiple local significances and how localities have to bear with the consequences of modernity´s global triumph.
The screenings were curated by Marita Muukkonen, curator of FRAME Finnish Fund for Art Exchange.
