This talk will explore contemporaneous engagements with a spirit of Pop throughout the globe, by drawing on new research undertaken in preparation for The World Goes Pop, a large-scale exhibition presented at Tate Modern in late 2015. In an attempt to challenge the simple linear trajectory of influence that has dominated most accounts, the exhibition will explore the contemporaneous engagements with a spirit of pop throughout the globe, looking not only at the relatively well-covered activity in the US, UK and France but also surveying developments throughout Europe, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
Flavia Frigeri is Curator at Tate Modern, where she worked on exhibitions such as Ruins in Reverse (2013); The EY Exhibition Paul Klee: Making Visible (2013), Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs (2014) and is co-curator of the upcoming exhibition The World Goes Pop (September 2015). Prior to joining Tate she was the 2010-2011 Hilla Rebay International Fellow at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. She is a PhD candidate at University College London in the History of Art Department.
