Pécs-born Marcel Breuer (1902–1981) was one of the Modernist architects and furniture designers of the greatest influence in the 20th century. The Marcel Breuer retrospective exhibition arranged by the Vitra Design Museum presents his work in furniture design and the models of his prominent buildings. The thematic sections survey his furniture according to their materials. Numerous original pieces with the steel tubular frame illustrate the process, in part, by which Breuer experimented with the new possibilities given by employing the material. The exhibition discusses Breuer’s architectural oeuvre within three subjects: houses, space, dimensions. Twelve models of his buildings were commissioned for this exhibition (among others, the Breuer-house I, II; the Whitney Museum, and the churches).Curators: Michael Remmele and Krisztina Üveges.
