Sean Snyder (1972, Virginia Beach, USA), an American artist who lives in Berlin, Kiev and Tokyo, examines the effects of visual mass culture with his projects. He presents his videos, texts and images, which always rely on serious research, in installations and publications. His subjects come from the “fact-finding” mass media of the 20th and 21st centuries, from the Cold War to the war in Iraq. Snyder uses diverse sources – official channels of information, news from agencies, government reports, as well as private websites, digital and non-digital archives – to uncover the manipulative effects in the torrent of images, as well as the ideology behind them.
