Dóra Maurer’s conceptual series explores the changes in visual meaning: photographs of the phases of a given subject’s movement are arranged in different orders, thereby modifying how the series reads.

Since the early 1970s, Maurer has been employing the forms and devices of mathematics and music, which give rise to exact, self-validating constructions. Based on the observation of simple facts, she creates flexible systems of great inherent variability.

Dóra Maurer (1937, Budapest) is a central figure of the Hungarian neo-avant-garde; beside her paintings, graphics and conceptual works, her films and education activity are also very important. The examination of the senses, of the faculty of perception, plays an important part in her work.
