KARI CONTE, Director of Programs and Exhibitions at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP), New York

Kari Conte will speak about her curatorial practice and programmatic initiatives at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP), which is the leading residency program for visual artists in the United States. She will also expand on ISCP's program in relation to Central and Eastern Europe. Following this, artists Gergely László, Szabolcs KissPál and Gabriella Csoszó, who were ACAX/ISCP residents in 2010 and 2011 respectively, will join the discussion and share their thoughts on working in New York in the context of their residency.

Kari Conte is a curator and writer based in New York, where she is Director of Programs and Exhibitions at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP). Prior to this, she was based in London, UK where she worked at the Whitechapel Gallery and received an MA in Curating Contemporary Art at the Royal College of Art. She has curated or organized over 30 international exhibitions and has lectured on the history of exhibitions at Bard College and the Royal College of Art as well as on residencies at the Goethe-Institut and Independent Curators International (ICI). She recently curated a new commission by Ursula Mayer for Performa 11, New York and is currently working on the first monograph of artist Mierle Laderman Ukeles, to be published in 2012 by Sternberg Press, Berlin and Kunstverein, Amsterdam.
