András Lengyel was born in 1952 in Zirc. Between 1972 and 1976, he studied at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts, first at the Painting, and later on at the Graphic Arts Department. He completed his graduate studies between 1976 and 1977. He was a founding member of the Rózsa Circle, founded in 1976 at the Rózsa Café opposite the university building. His works won numerous awards, such as the Honorary Mention Award at The Future Theatre Competition, Pompidou Center, Paris (1977); the award of the Graphic Biennale in Miskolc (1985); the Derkovits Scholarship (1986-89); the award of the 10th Photography Biennale in Esztergom (1996); and the Munkácsy and Balassi Prize (1997).
