Richter’s offset work from 1998, a chart in fact gives the title of this exhibition. The chart displays the most significant constitutive authors of European culture according to Richter (the Hungarian composer, Béla Bartók among many) from 1300 to the creation of his piece. The exhibition, collected by the German ifa Gallery and co-curated by Goethe Institute, Budapest showcases 27 works from Richter’s oeuvre from the 1990’s presenting the most important tendencies in it, his photo-realist paintings and usage of photography, his political art and his abstract lyrical period. Richter is a „living classic” of German painting who won the Golden Lion Award in 1997 at the Venice Bienniale. He was born in 1932 in Dresden and moved to Düsseldorf in 1961 where he lectured at the local Arts Academy from 1971. Since 1983 he has been living in Cologne. He has exhibited in many significant international venues but this is going to be the first time he has a solo exhibition in Budapest. His Fenstergitter (Window Lattice) a property of Ludwig Museum Budapest was exhibited on his retrospective in 1999 in Museum Luigi Pecci, Prato.
