Ludwig Museum Budapest - Museum of Contemporary Art, in collaboration with C3: Center for Culture & Communication and InterAccess Toronto, within the framework of the Budapest Autumn Festival, presents the exhibition and event series entitled Digitized Bodies – Virtual Spectacles. This exhibition is of special significance because the biotechnical sciences, digital development and these in connection with art have not yet been introduced comprehensively in Hungary. Meanwhile, however, the post-biological body and its presentation in the various artistic genres has already been the subject of numerous exhibitions, books, television programmes, conferences and symposia in recent times. One of the primary objectives of the Digitized Bodies – Virtual Spectacles project is, on the one hand, the evolution of a kind of interdisciplinary communication, and on the other hand, the presentation of such artworks that demonstrate the transformation of our constructed image of the human body under the influence of medical technology. The exhibition – and the project in its entirety – seek the answer to the same question, in attempting to examine our metamorphosising notions in accordance with the accelerating development of the various technologies, and to present how artists, theoreticians and scientists acknowledge and evaluate the digitalization of our culture.
Nina Czeglédy, the Canadian (Hungarian) curator of the exhibition, has made a place in her selection for the following Canadian and Hungarian artists: Jack Butler, Jon Baturin, Eric Fong, Nell Tenhaaf, Zsolt Péter Barta, Orsolya Drozdik, Luca Göbölyös, Tibor Gyenis, József Hajdú, Gábor Kerekes, Hilda Kozári and Antal Lakner. Slovenian curator Marina Gržinić introduces the photographic works of Rajko Bizjak, while the artist group ECLIPSE is represented with an installation in the exhibition.
Accompanying programmes: 25 October, following the opening of the exhibition, the performance of Tanja Ostojić (Belgrade/Ljubljana) 26 October, international symposium in the French Institute (Budapest, I. Fő u.17.) with the participation of scientists, artists and theoreticians, concluding with a concert performance by Atau Tanaka (Japan) 27 October, 10.00-18.00, “Wired Bodies” screening series in the auditorium of Ludwig Museum 31 October, 19.00, Sara Diamond’s “Code Zebra” perfomance can be seen in the same place.
